DIY Mongolian Fur Stool

I have recently been drooling over these fur stools. I love how they bring a soft feminine touch to any room..

HOWEVER these babies are not cheap, these little cuties will put you back £399. Still tempted?  Well there's no way in hell I'm spending £399 on a chair I wont even want to sit on. So instead I took a little trip down to Ikea and picked up the 'Marius' stool for £3.

You will need:
  • A stool, obviously. I went for the Ikea Marius, for £3 you can't go wrong.
  • A Mongolian fur cushion cover. Mine was purchased for £29.99 at TKMaxx. You can get a cheaper fur fabric but I do feel like the curly Mongolian fur looks better.
  • Gold spray paint. I tend to use Plastikote/rustoleum. You may also want to use a clear lacquer for a topcoat. £10 Amazon
  • Foam Padding size 14" x 14" x 3". Roughly £5 Ebay.
  • Adhesive. I used some left over flooring spray I had in my cupboard.

Step 1.
Assemble the stool legs and spray paint them gold. You will need to do quite a few layers to really make sure it's all even. Finally spray the clear lacquer to seal it.

Step 2. Insert the top of the stool inside the pillow case, with a sharpie mark where the stool legs join onto the seat. This is where you will need to cut in leg holes.

Step 3.
Whilst the stool is drying get out the foam padding and trace around the top of the stool and cut out. I started out with scissors but then ended up grabbing a knife and taking out some frustration. Got there in the end. I then sprayed my adhesive on the foam circle and stuck it on top of the seat. Slot back into the cushion cover.

Step 4.
Very carefully slide your legs diagonally into the leg holes. Once both legs are in you will need to put the top screw in first from underneath, once it's in make sure all legs are slotted into place. Finish screwing the legs in place following the Ikea instructions.

And there you have it.. your own Fur stool for under £50 (a saving of £349). Quick and easy, Gorgeous result!
